Eligible Programs

International students applying to the Martha Graham School may attend the Independent Program, the Two-Year Certificate Program, the Advanced Studies Certificate Program, and the Teacher Training Program.

Generally, an international student attending the Martha Graham School must enter the United States in F-1 Student Status. An F-1 Student Visa must be obtained at the U.S. Embassy in the student’s country of residence or home country. In order to apply for an F-1 Student Visa, the student needs a Form I-20. Once accepted into a program, the prospective student will receive an I-20 Application. The student must return the completed application to the School in order to be issued Form I-20. Further information on how to proceed will then be provided.

Applying for an I-20 and a visa is a lengthy process. We recommend that the student contact the school at least 3–4 months prior to the start date of the program in which they wish to enroll.

Six Steps to Study at the Martha Graham School as an International Student

  • Complete the Martha Graham School application for your chosen professional program.
  • Applications for full-time programs require an audition (except the Independent Program).
  • Submit the $50 application fee (non-refundable).

  • Upon acceptance, the Martha Graham School will issue an acceptance letter and an I-20 Application form.
  • The I-20 is required to apply for your F-1 visa.

  • You must provide documentation showing sufficient funds to cover tuition, fees, and living expenses for the full length of your program.
  • F-1 students are not permitted to work in the USA. U.S. government regulations therefore require that international students document sufficient funds for the program duration.
  • Living expenses are currently estimated at $3,000 per month (tuition and fees not included).

  •  The school will issue your Form I-20, along with further instructions on how to proceed with your visa application.

  • Bring your Form I-20 and all required documentation to the U.S. Embassy in your country of residence or home country.
  • Visa processing times vary by country — begin this process well in advance of your program start date.

  • Once your visa is approved, travel to the United States to begin your studies at Martha Graham Studios, 1501 Broadway, 11th Floor, New York, NY 10036.

Financial Documentation Required

U.S. government regulations require that F-1 students provide documentation showing sufficient funds for the full length of their program. This includes tuition and fees and living expenses. F-1 students are not permitted to work in the USA during their studies.
