The Martha Graham School accepts applications for all professional programs on a rolling basis. The Fall 2026 application deadline is May 1, 2026. Auditions are held in January, March and June.

Step 1: Complete the Standard Application

Submit the online application form with a $50 non-refundable application fee. The application includes the following required materials:

  • Dance resume
  • Headshot
  • Current photo of applicant in an Arabesque — first arabesque on leg of choice (en relevé or en flat)
  • A 500-word personal statement expressing why you are interested in studying at the Martha Graham School
  • One letter of recommendation
  • Program selection of choice

Application Deadline: May 1, 2027

For Fall 2027 entry. Acceptances issued no later than June 1, 2027. June Audition applicants are notified at the end of the audition.

Step 2: Attend an Audition

Select your preferred audition date and format when completing your application. Auditions for Fall 2026 entry are as follows:

January 9, 2027 — In-person, 10am–1pm
March 14, 2027 — Virtual, 2–4pm
June 26, 2026 — In-person, 2–4pm

Applicants will be notified of their acceptance either at the audition or by email no later than June 1, 2027.

Additional Entry Requirements

In addition to Step 1. application requirements, Teacher Training Program applicants must:

  • Provide a maximum 500-word Teaching Philosophy Statement.

In addition to Step 1. application requirements, Advanced Studies Certificate Performance Track applicants must:

  • Submit a maximum of 3 video excerpts of the applicant in live performance. 
  • Samples must be between 2:30–3 minutes in length and may be from solos, duets/trios, or groups.
  • Applicants must clearly indicate which dancer they are in the video excerpts.

In addition to Step 1. application requirements, Advanced Studies Certificate Composition Track applicants must:

  • Submit two samples of your choreography.
  • Each excerpt must be a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 6 minutes in length.
  • Solos, duets/trios, and/or group works are accepted.

Independent Program and Two-Year Certificate applicants have no additional requirements beyond the standard form.

  • Must be at least 18 years old at time of enrollment
  • Intermediate Graham Technique™ (Graham II or higher)
  • Intermediate Ballet Technique
  • Application and Audition

  • Graduate of Graham School Two-Year Certificate Program or University Degree with a notable dance program or Dance Conservatory Degree or Certificate
  • Advanced Graham Technique™ (Graham III or higher, per discretion of Program Director)
  • Intermediate Ballet Technique
  • Application and Audition

  • Basic to Intermediate Ballet Technique (3 years)
  • Application required — no audition required

  • Graduate of Graham School Two-Year Certificate Program or University Degree with a notable dance program or Dance Conservatory Degree or Certificate
  • Advanced Graham Technique™ (Graham III or higher, per discretion of Program Director)
  • Intermediate/Advanced Ballet Technique
  • Application and Audition

  • Strong desire to perform Martha Graham’s repertory
  • Advanced Ballet and/or Contemporary Technique
  • Must simultaneously enroll in the Advanced Studies Certificate Program
  • Must complete Online Audition requirements
  • Must attend in person Callback Auditions upon invitation

International students are welcome in all professional programs. The school supports F-1 Student Visas. We recommend beginning the visa process 3–4 months before your intended start date. See the International Students page for full details.
